Insomnia

A few short moments ago, I was blissfully asleep. I had fallen asleep with the bedside lamp on and a cup of tea on the nightstand. Then I rolled over in a state of semisleep and turned off the light, inadvertently turning over the cup of tea onto the floor. IMG_20160126_070751466I can’t even blame the dog for this one, and I can’t rely on him to clean it up either, because he’s still asleep.

And now I am supposed to be thankful…and I am. I’ve been having trouble concentrating lately. My mood is all over the map and  I haven’t been able to write or even read much. What I have been reading is actually stuff I’ve read before because I find it easier on the concentration.Three wonderful books I have re-read this week and am grateful that I was able:

  • TheAlchemist:“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
  • The Little Prince:“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
  • And a bit of comic relief with The Big Over Easy: “Mr. Pewter led them through to a library, filled with thousands of
    antiquarian books.
    ‘Impressive, eh?’
‘Very,’ said Jack. ‘How did you amass
    all these?’
‘Well,’ said Pewter, ‘You know the person who always borrows
books and never gives them back?’
    ‘Yes…?’
‘I’m that person.” ― Jasper Fforde, The Big Over Easy

I’m also grateful to have done some writing this week. I was able to start a short story after quite a few random posts… I think those are going to continue, as I don’t seem to be able to keep this writing thing going without significant warming up to do so.

Had some awesome conversation this week.

The pneumonia finally packed its bags and left.

I have spectacular friends.

The private practice is up to full swing, and I am thinking about adding a day.

The car got hit in a parking lot, but when you’re driving a car like mine, the damage isn’t worth any worry.

I was able to connect a few friends to transfer a six month old hamster from one home to another when a child’s asthma took a turn for the worse with exposure to said rodent. 53f8989532629DSC_0088_large_mediumSo “little guy” is now going to be living in his new home. I’m sure he will be very happy.

Have I mentioned I have a dog? His name is Douglas. Well, not really, his alias is Douglas…either way, great guy.

  1. I’m glad the pneumonia has packed and left–and I hope it never decides to return again!
How sweet of you to arrange for the new home for the hamster. Sorry about the car, but glad the damage isn’t much. Congrats on the success of the private practice!

  2. Glad you are feeling better and back more to yourself. That low point, when all of our energies, physical and mental are required self-survival, creativity and motivation are the casualties. I’m glad you are feeling better and more engaged, and so the Unsticking continues. Love to alias Doug.

  3. This is all in all a very good list, despite having to cope with mood swings and such! I am so glad you have gotten rid of that nasty pneumonia! I am so very, very glad you have Doug. We have all totally enjoyed your new spurt of daily writing. It’s like stopping by for a little visit each day! 🙂 At least you weren’t IN the are (or getting out of it) when this little accident happened, THANKFULLY!! The private practice update brings me hope that the day will come when you can be totally in charge of your career again, and not have to deal with other buttheads. :-).

  4. I am pretty sure, yes, pretty sure that you did mention once that you had a dog! (wink wink)
    Pneumonia?! Yuck, get out!
But The Little Prince? Yes, that stays.

  5. Hi–I’m ever so glad the pneumonia’s finally gone–what an impertinent, uncouth visitor!! And, interesting that you should mention The Little Prince–as I was going through my treasure box of quotations, I came upon a whole card-full from that book…however it always triggers a painful memory of the college professor (an older woman)–Literature–who told me I wasn’t “working up to my potential”; as I was an English Major, it still makes me slither with shame 🙂 So, although I have no posts up yet–this is my new place (the old Azul who doesn’t care what you call me, really). I’ll be back soon with posts to your prompts/cues–thanks for hanging in there, you’re my fond role model 🙂 Oh! I almost forgot: don’t know how much TV you watch, but Jennifer Aniston has a commercial (something to do with getting her beauty sleep)–and not only does she have a sleep/eye mask, but her dog is wearing one in bed next to her! I thought of you and Dougie immediately–big smile!!! xxooxo

    1. Stella! Is that you!? You meant it when you said I could call you anything right? HEEE! I havent seen that commercial but now I must! When I started to read this the tone and content made me hope it was you … AND IT WAS! Have you read The Alchemist? It is very much like the Little Prince to me (at least in my heart) Maybe it would have a better memory for you!

      1. Stella–I LOVE it!!! Haven’t read the Alchemist yet…will put it on my list. You’ll love the aforementioned commercial, truly–Doug might even enjoy it (I’m assuming he watches TV now and then). I started working on a 6-sentence story for “Right”–but it needs serious work, didn’t fall onto the page with ease like so many do. Back to the clipboard…. Have a blessed Sunday!

  6. good news on the pew-no-mia! weather’s getting better (of course, in your part of New England that simply means you get to see the ground in patches, I’d imagine).
A dog?!? you have a dog?
    “…I was talking to Doug”*

  7. So glad to hear the pneumonia has taken a hike! Finally!
I’m going to have to take your idea and just go with the flow and just write stuff down. I’m not getting any posts written, simply because I don’t have the time or energy to come up with well-crafted, well-written ones. (OK, so I have rarely written well-crafted or well-written, but whatever.)
    I’m doing it. This week.
    Yay for work going well.
There is something to be said for driving a beater. I lost a hubcap several days ago. Don’t care. Unless, of course, it is an important part. Does anyone know if a hubcap is an important part??

    1. It’s all relative. If I have to worry about the engine falling out then no The Hub Cap is not an important part. And you write very well-crafted posts so I could see where doing something random might feel foriegn

  8. That’s a mighty good list, all things considered. Insomnia sucks. I am really so very glad the pneumonia has left town. The Little Prince…now there’s an old favorite. I have no idea where my copy might be, but I suspect my sister has it. I wonder if Zilla’s ready for that one?

  9. I thought tea was supposed to be restful and relaxing? Dude, you did tea all wrong! Hope you sleep better this coming week, and HOORAY for your thankfuls, especially the friends, the lack of pneumonia (if you could keep that one up for a while?) and the private practice.

    I didn’t know you had a dog! He’s CUTE!

(P.S. I typo’d ‘He’s CURE’ and nearly left it, given how apt it was)
