TToT and the SSS Cue of the Week

I have a full day tomorrow and I just don’t see myself getting to the blog. It has taken a back seat for far too long. Don’t misunderstand however, it’s not likely to change any time soon. So, here I am doing this a bit sooner than usual and a bit later than I used to.

I’m still grateful I changed my job up and went to private practice in order to work for myself. It’s just difficult at times when you’re out there by yourself. Even on it’s worst day, it’s still better than a decent day working for someone else.

picsart_07-24-03-34-06Next Thursday, marks the day I invited my friend Joulie to be my favorite K9. It’s been a year since her predecessor, Skip passed on to another realm and the shelter called to ask if I had room for an older girl who was in need of a home. The photo on the left is the one I posted that day. It’s been bastardized into many more bad jokes, but none the less…that’s it. Joulie came with very little training. She wasn’t house trained, she didn’t know how to walk on a leash and she’s certainly not off-leash material, her teeth were a mess and at 8 years old she hadn’t been spayed. The biggest challenge was that she pretty much spent most of her time walking on two legs (which turned out to be very stressful for her hips and back) and could open the cupboards. After some childproofing, we pretty much got all of that stuff resolved. She has learned much over the past year and if it weren’t for the barking we would be a perfect pair. She has this barking thing that drives me ape but we are working on it. She is also still working on walking up a ramp which turns out not to be all that easy for dogs.

20170721_131135I’m grateful for a host of things. Thanks to Erin Fangboner for introducing me to kindnessrocksproject.com . It has proven to be a nice reprive in the day when I need to kick back for a minute or two. I have placed them in piles in the cafe at work where they disappear pretty quickly.  I’m glad because I would stop making them if I thought they weren’t being taken and they really do help me relax in little fits and spurts.

My avocado plant is growing! As is the vine crawling up the beam to the ceiling of the my office building.

I went to a “Sip and Paint” at the local high school with some friends.  It was to 20170719_191714benefit a scholorship fund in memory of one of the teachers who died of breast cancer.

I’m grateful for friends and people who “get” me.

I’m grateful for friends who ask me to help them because I “get” them.

Tomorrow is a library book sale . It’s a big deal in town. I am looking forward to it. I haven’t been to it in a few years.

I’m also outlining a book proposal with a friend tomorrow. Should be fun? I dunno really…

  1. The kindness rock project sounds like a wonderful idea, how kind of you to participate. Paint and sips are fun, I have been to 2 of them. I love library book sales, I go on booksalefinder all the time to find them and will go up to 2 hours away for the big ones.

  2. The kindness rock project sounds amazing! And yay for Joulie learning to not steal your food and walk on a ramp and on a leash and stuff. The dog I had two dogs ago was a major barker. I tried everything… it never really stopped but I did the water bottles, the air horn, a leash tug… anyway. HI! I like “slip.” Maybe I’ll be unlazy and actually write one this week. xo

  3. It was fun to see a TToT popping in from you as the weekend started! I’ve found that it’s much easier to do one early than to put it off and then feel like “I must get this done.”

I am grateful that you changed your job too, I know it comes with it’s own share of stresses and exhaustion, but at least you are not putting up with other people’s BS this way, that that’s a true thankful! 🙂

Joulie, the little pirate girl who lights up our lives with her crooked smile and fashion sense! I can’t think of anyone else who could have taken on so many issues with a senior pup and help her come so far in just a year! I know the barking thing is a pain in the butt, I am still believing you and her will eventually find a way to reach an agreement on how much noise is acceptable. I am wondering if stairs up to the bed would be more familiar/comfortable for to use than a ramp? Maybe that angle thing just feels creepy.

Your kindness rocks ROCK! 🙂 The fact that you are artistic and they are so cute just makes them all the more desirable and I can imagine how fast a pile disappears off the table, and all the smiles of people walking away with one in their pocket. This is such a wonderful activity that anyone can participate in, and it costs so little for supplies!

Your avocado plant is indeed doing great, and that vine is obviously very happy in it’s current location with the wonderful beam to scale. Green things growing adds such a sense of beauty and peace to indoor spaces!

I’d still love to see your Sip n’ Paint effort, but I do understand your comment about trying to follow an instructor being difficult when you are used to just instinctively making it happen. Sometimes connecting the dots does not achieve the desired result, but I know you had fun in the process and it was for a very good cause. Really, you should teach a “no-talent” art class for people want to give various media a try, it would be a fun way to earn a little extra money.

People who “get you” are indeed the biggest blessing, especially when they check in just because they sense you need to hear “Hi, how are you?” You are the one person I always feel safe being honest with, and that says a lot! ❤

Library book sales, that does sound like fun, all kinds of new-to-you things to bring home and enjoy. Let us know what you buy!

A book proposal with a friend… something you are going to co-author? Any response from the submissions on your book yet?

And you have the SSS cue up ahead of time, now you're free to enjoy the weekend with no more "need to remember to do's" hopefully. I'm close to that point myself and it feels good! I think I'll do some reading and add more rows to Papa Bear's afghan, oh, and continue to develop my relationship with the feral trio on the deck. 🙂 Have a great weekend, Zoe, I'm ordering up a gentler week ahead for you! ❤

  4. Bastardized or not, it’s a great picture of the 2 of you 🙂

To humans, a ramp sounds logical . Why wouldn’t a dog like it?? We bought a ramp many years ago for our 2 labs thinking they would prefer to just walk up into the truck or van. No sir. They would have NOTHING to do with it! So we gave it to a friend of our’s whose lab was quite overweight. No takers! Riley wouldn’t go on it either 😀

I think it’s great you went solo. Yes, there are challenges being self employed but they are more than worth it!

Sounds like a cool project, the rock project 😀
    Excellent your thumb remains green!

  5. I can’t believe it’s been a whole year. How time flies. Sounds like you are keeping busy. Wonderful how much dog training you’ve done in one year. I am bad with that stuff. My Dobby still barks far too much. Any tips?

  6. Seeing your painted rocks on Facebook has been so fun.
It is interesting what some dogs are able to do while others would never even attempt to do a particular thing. One of our dogs climbed stairs with no problem. Another dog never attempted to do so. I even knew some people who had a dog that climbed a ladder that was leaning against a huge sprawling tree. The dog would hang out on one of the broad limbs and watch the world below.
Yeah for your avocado tree. It is looking good.
Well with a barking Joulie around, you should remain safe from intruders.

  7. I’m grateful I made it over here! HAHA.
And let’s see…I hear ya. There’s just so much to do in this life that I don’t get to more than half the things I set out to do. And flitter like a hummingbird for more nectar at the next pretty flower. <– THAT is the theme of my week. lol.
Grateful for blog friends, grateful for Joulie-dogs and grateful for people who are just plain awesomerockin. 🙂
